The friend date

I worked myself up into a tizzy. It had started as a simple text exchange about a meme I sent. This is a thing I do, let me know if you want to get on my ‘meme distribution list’ as I’m not an active poster on any social media I resort to old school and just text them to you. I guess it’s mid school as I don’t print them out and mail them, but by God, one day I may resort to that. Hey the advantage of this is you can post meme x, y or z before all your friends do because your kooky friend who doesn’t use social media is a whiz at finding them somehow. (Is being a meme-maker an actual job, asking for a friend…)


Anyway, she asked if I wanted to come over to her hot-tub. Later I found out she had a pool as well but she had me at hot-tub. She also asked if I wanted some adult beverages, to which I glanced over at my dear husband and he dutifully agreed to drive me because he rocks. 


Once we had settled on a time I randomly thought: oh! What do normal people do in this situation? They bring food! Make some random food, Court! (You must remember, I was basically raised myself, so there are some things I just don’t know.) 


So there I was scouring my fridge and food closet for something to bring. I settled on bringing creamed corn with tomatoes for what reason, likely no one but the Holy Spirit will ever know. When I handed her the tray, she looked at it and was like oh? It’s warm? …


Then proceeded two hours of Court over sharing. And I wonder why she hasn’t called again! But now I’m left with the problem of: do I just go, so… that was awkward… Or do I move on? 


So I tried again with a new meme. She tentatively asked about my plans for the weekend and I was bummed that the only day I was free she was unavailable. I’m not the life of the party, most weekends are spent with me happily perched on my lounge, but I was full that weekend. 

I guess here’s how you’ll know if we made it over the friend hump: if I delete this post (and can y’all not reference this, kthxbye!?!)

Darkness deep

I never knew that being deep could be a bad thing. I assumed that the opposite- being shallow- was the bad thing.  But then again, I suppose that hell is quite deep down somewhere in this realm or some other. And in the deep it can be very dark. Our former pastor is starting a bible study on Job and encouraged us to read through it.    So I dutifully started and there I found it: Job 12:22 ‘He reveals the deep things of darkness and brings utter darkness into the light.’ This is a verse I could just sit in for like five years. Gone through

I realize that probably half of my posts are apologizing for having abandoned this poor blog. This time it was from a medical thing that just dragged and dragged. I finally came through it. But. Man was it a struggle. I won’t put a lot of details cause quite frankly it was not pleasant and required I spend a lot of time in the bathroom. No one wants to read that crap. Literally.  Including, me. But. When you are in something, in the thick of it and it’s like you are suddenly in ‘Honey a Shrunk the Kids’ and everything is a forrest to you even though in actuality it’s just a blade of grass, well, all you can do really is go through it. It helps if some kind souls who have some bit of understanding to your situation come alongside you. The women who came before

She stares at me, fiercely, every day at work.  She ran the War Office of Tennessee.  Truth be told, she was a ‘Rosie the Riveter’ but. She stayed. Her best friend and her decided now that They had made it into the workforce, they weren’t going home. I stare at that tiny woman with a BOSS face, And I am steeled for my next meeting. She was my grandmother. She was a professor at UT and now retired. No. Scratch that. She just died. And I’m still painfully reminded Because I honestly, weirdly, thought she would live forever. Her scientist background convinced me that she would tick Right past the nineties and live well into the hundreds.  So many ‘remedies’ for this and that, God love her, it mostly worked.
